Government Degree College, Paderu was established in 1985 and completed 33 years of its mammoth service in fulfilling the educational needs of tribal students in the field of Higher Education. It is almost the first and the oldest college in Andhra Pradesh imparting quality education to tribal students in particular over 3 decades having been geographically situated in remote and hilly areas in Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh state. There is huge demand for admissions into the College mainly due to free education and reasonably good infrastructural facilities.
For over two decades, this Institution is the only Higher Educational institution meeting the educational needs of 19 taluks. Thousands of people were benefitted educationally due to this College. The students are from very poor Scheduled Tribe background.
The College had a humble beginning with two rooms in the year 1985 with 27 students in Arts and Commerce located in the Government Junior College Paderu and the next year strength increased from 27 to 58 out of sanction strength of 80. In the Same year Project Officer ITDA sanctioned hostel facility to the 18 ST students.
His Excellency Dr.Sankar Dayal Sarma, the then Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the college on 6-11-1985 on the acquired premises. In due course it developed its own campus in serene atmosphere in an extent of 27 acres with Permanent buildings in a plinth area of 2580 sq. m. The construction work was executed by the Tribal Welfare Engineering Department. The new building block of seven class rooms was inaugurated by Sri. K. Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 02-09-1994.
The College is recognised by the UGC under 2f & 12 b since 1993. The College was accredited with “B” Grade with 2.28 points Grade points on a 4 point Maximum Scale of NAAC assessment in 2008. In Cycle-2 of NAAC assessment and the College for NAAC in June/July-2019. The College is regularly updating its data with regard to AISHE for the last 3 years and had participated in NIRF since 2017.
There is huge demand for admissions into the College mainly due to good Faculty team and reasonably good infrastructural facilities. The College has been offering nine streams in B.A., B.Com & B.Sc. Courses. The college has started a post graduation programme in Telugu from this academic year i.e. 2018-19.
The college has a junior national champion in Mr. G. Bairagi Naidu in archery. The tribal youth with strong built are exceptionally good in archery, volley ball, long jump, high jump and other track & field events.
